A Summer shout-out on an entirely different note …
The Paris Olympics were beyond amazing!
I’m suffering from withdrawal. No telling how long it will last? Likely till July 2028. What WILL Los Angeles do?
The performances … the photo finishes … the ever-present smiles … the disappointments … Those un-freaking-believable opening ceremonies … the emotional highs and lows … the tears of joy and sorrow … the community!!
These images will last indefinitely:
- Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles “bowing” to Rebeca Andrade in honor of her gold medal in the floor exercise.
- Ariarne Titmus raising the hand and then embracing Katie Ledecky after their thrilling 800-meter freestyle swim.
- Fellow pole-vaulters Emmanouil Karalis and Sam Kendricks helping Mondo Duplantis (taped a hand and quieted the crowd) in his successful quest to break his world record.
- A centenarian, wheelchair-bound torchbearer briefly carrying the Olympic flame.
- Celine Dion crushing it from her perch on the Eiffel Tower during the opening – what a beautiful moment.
- And the list goes on >>>>>>
For 16 days the world was cooperative, helpful, supportive, caring and focused on the quest and not only the outcome of the event! Sincere thanks to the 6,000 or so athletes from 206 countries we collectively rooted for. They briefly brought the world a bit closer together and we’re better off as a result.
Thank you, Paris!
